The family of Gabriel Cedeno Hurtado is asking for the community's help sending the body of Hurtado back to Ecuador after the tragedy took his life the evening of Monday, Oct. 10, the GoFundMe states.

"Our family is in complete shock and filled with complete sadness and heartache, as this is all so sudden and unexpected", stated his niece, Michelle Matute. "We are creating this fund to bring my uncle Gabriel Cedeño home to Ecuador and give my grandparents a chance to give him one final goodbye".

Edwin Rivera, 33, was reportedly intoxicated when he struck Hurtado as he was attempting to cross the 3800 block of Dundalk Avenue at approximately 8 p.m. that tragic night, according to a Baltimore Police Department spokesperson.

"He lost his life in this senseless and tragic accident that could have been easily avoided if the drunk driver stopped and thought of his actions before getting behind the wheel, Gabriel will forever live on in our hearts and minds…We will always have memories filled with happiness and joy", continued Matute.

Rivera was charged with driving under the influence and is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center without bail.
